I RELY ON BREASTFEEDING TO STABILISE THE DISEASE (40)

 40. FIRE

That night, Chu Ran didn't know what had happened, but when she got up in the morning to freshen up, she noticed that she was missing an earring. She didn't think too much, just thought that she had accidentally dropped it while shopping.

Sun Shangcheng took Chu Ran to the prefect office to meet Gu Xian.

Chu Ran raised her head to meet his gentle gaze with a smile, "I have seen Wangye and the prefect." Chu Ran saluted them.

"Is something burning? It smells so bad!" Chu Ran said.

They saw a servant rushing in: "Your Majesty, Your excellency, there is a fire in the prison."

The expressions of the people present changed.

A puff of smoke gradually diffused silently in the prison, and the prisoners in the prison couldn't help coughing violently, and at the end of the aisle outside, there were flames everywhere.

"Quick, put out the fire." Gu Xian shouted and everyone ran in the direction of the cell.

Some government officials picked up buckets and went to the well to fetch water to put out the fire. Several brave government officials rushed into the fire to release the prisoners. The fire became bigger and bigger, and the prison became a mess. Some prisoners that had been burned into a fireball rushed towards the crowd.

At this point even a blind man could understand that the growing fire was obviously caused by someone pouring something like oil on it. At one point, cries of misery and screams were heard one after another from the sky to the ground.

Seeing a fire suddenly breaking out, Gu Xian's eyes sank. Next to the prison was the warehouse where the disaster relief materials were stored. The fire has spread to the warehouse.

The flames rose into the air like a dragon with its teeth and claws. The flames grew bigger and bigger, and the faint soaring force could not be extinguished in a short time.

Chu Ran looked at Gu Xian silently, and found that his obsidian pupils were shining with an indistinguishable dark light.

Suddenly a fleeing prisoner instantly grabbed Chu Ran's hands with one hand, and put a dagger on her neck with the other, "I want to go out. Give me another one thousand taels of silver, or I will kill her."

Everyone was surprised by this sudden event and stopped what they were doing.

"Hurry up, or I will slit her neck!" The prisoner stared at Gu Xian with scorching eyes.

Hearing his words, Gu Xian first raised his hand to indicate that the others don't move. His lips still had a touch of warm smile like the breeze but the word he spat out was cold and bloodthirsty, he was full of hostility: "Oh?"

That long trailing sound made people feel terrified for no reason.

The prisoner made a cut in Chu Ran's neck and dragged her into the fire scene of the warehouse.

Chu Ran cursed secretly, your uncle!

Gu Xian motioned to his subordinates to continue fighting the fire, and followed into the warehouse alone.

When the prisoner saw Gu Xian coming in alone, he slapped Chu Ran away, and stabbed Gu Xian with a dagger.

On the other side, Gu Xian's aura suddenly changed, and a hidden weapon flew out of his hand, stabbing the prisoner without hesitation.

When Chu Ran saw that, her hair was standing on end.

The concealed weapon hit the prisoner's neck, and a warm and sticky blood splashed out, and Chu Ran, who was closer to the prisoner was splashed on her face. She stared at this scene in a daze, still a little unresponsive.

"Uh..."

The prisoner let out a muffled grunt, and then fell straight on his back.

Killed with one move.

The dead man fell at Chu Ran's feet, the strong smell of blood was so heavy that it was almost nauseating.

Chu Ran's dark eyes were like thick ink, and her long eyelashes shuddered lightly. The moment she met Gu Xian's eyes, her eyes widened suddenly.

A soft noise suddenly came from the top of Gu Xian's head, and just above Gu Xian's head, a crosswood broke apart after being swallowed by the tongue of fire.

"Gu Xian!" She exclaimed and ran to him.

Chu Ran hugged him, and Gu Xian's movements stalled.

The logs fell down suddenly with a bang, hitting Chu Ran's shoulder and back.

Gu Li watched in horror as blood immediately seeped out of her neck, staining her lapel and dyeing it red. Blood slowly flowed down from her hands, finally falling drop by drop to the ground.

"Hmm..."

She only felt a churning in her chest, and a fishy sweetness almost rushed to her throat.

At this moment, a loud noise came from behind, which was the sound of an explosion. The heat wave rolled in, and deafening sound kept ringing.

Gu Xian was no longer calm.

It was gunpowder.

Someone wants to bury them completely in this fire!

Boom...

The warehouse collapsed!

The surrounding area quickly turned into a sea of fire, and Gu Xian looked at Chu Ran, who was motionless, his blood was about to freeze.

"Why did you want to save me..." Gu Xian's throat suddenly choked. She moved so quickly to jumped up to block him, without even thinking about whether doing this would kill her.

The fiery tingling pain in Chu Ran's back penetrated into the skin little by little, and finally spread to the whole body. Under the double impact of fear and pain, she fainted.

Gu Xian hugged Chu Ran, who had passed out in a coma, and walked out of the flames. His white robe was stained with Chu Ran's blood, bit by bit, like an arrogant and lonely red plum blossoming in the snow, with a kind of a cruel and terrifying beauty.

"Master, have you ever been injured?" Sun Shangcheng stepped forward.

Gu Xian lowered his eyes and walked out: "No." Sun Shangcheng was afraid that his master was injured, so he wanted to take Chu Ran from his arms but Gu Xian glanced at him coldly, and Sun Shangcheng immediately stepped aside.

The prefect Wang Daijie saw the scene where Gu Xian came out of the sea of flames holding Chu Ran unscathed and he was horrified, his face turned ugly, and he looked at him in consternation.
