I RELY ON BREASTFEEDING TO STABILISE THE DISEASE (56)

 56. THE LOST BABY

Chu Ran walked out following the path pointed by the maidservant.

...

The heavy rain lasted for a very long time, pattering incessantly.

A tall figure, wearing a thick black cloak to protect him from the rain, with thick eyebrows and a powerful presence, walked slowly into the Yue Lai Inn from the drizzling rain.

The innkeeper hurriedly greeted him and said, "Guest, do you want to stay for a break or stay in?"

The visitor threw a silver ingot to the innkeeper, and the innkeeper received it in his arms in surprise. Her hurriedly looked behind the visitor. There were more than a dozen horses parked outside the inn, and all of them were in the same costume. It took just a look to know that they were rich.

(打尖還是住店,Dǎjiān háishì zhù diàn. Rest or stay in. Rest as in rest for a break and a snack. And 'stay in' as in stay in for a period of time. It has a very long explanation but I figure I should just put meaning of the word. A detailed explanation here. )

There were all kinds of people on the official road to the capital. But the inn is a business. Who cares about who they were? As long as they had money, how can there be no place in the inn?

The innkeeper said, "It's cold and rainy, so stay in the inn. This small one will prepare the best guest rooms for all the guest officials."

Sun Shangcheng said solemnly, "No need, I want to ask you about someone." He took out a portrait from his sleeve and displayed it in front of the innkeeper, and asked: "Have you ever seen this person?"

The innkeeper looked at the portrait carefully, then searched it carefully in his mind, and shook his head with certainty: "I haven't seen this person."

"You take a closer look!" Sun Shangcheng roared with anger.

The innkeeper shivered with fright, and said tremblingly: "Really...I haven't seen..."

Sun Shangcheng sighed, turned and shook his head at the person who was heading the horse troop by the door. A faint purple appeared under the man's black wind robe, and a handsome face was hidden under the wide hood. After seeing Sun Shangcheng's response, the grip on the horse's rein became tighter and tighter.

He has been searching for so long, but why was there still no trace of her whereabouts?

Gu Xian's heart was so painful that even breathing became difficult.

When Sun Shangcheng walked out of the inn, worries gathered between his eyebrows. They checked everywhere one by one, just to find Chu Ran, openly and secretly, Gu Xian almost dispatched everyone who could be dispatched.

The sky has never been so overcast before, and the dark clouds covered the entire sky, and there was no trace of light. The darkness was pressed like night, but there was no star at the moment.

Sun Shangcheng clasped his fists and sincerely advised: "Master, this is not the way to go on. Why don't we withdraw our troops for the time being and think about everything from a long-term perspective."

Without hearing a response for a long time, Sun Shangcheng cautiously looked at the man sitting on the horse. He had never seen Gu Xian like this before.

The famous God of War was once so vigorous, clad in battle armor, riding a red-maned horse, slaying the enemy countries, instilling fear in the enemies. How extraordinary he was.

But now, his eyes were so hollow that there was no radiance anymore, and his face was pale due to many days of fatigue, his thin lips tightly pressed as he sat languidly on the horse, losing its color.

"Master..."

Gu Xian stretched out his hand slowly, and his open palm caught the falling cool rain. He was startled for a while, then clenched his palm again and said in an inaudible voice: "Where are you??"

Sun Shangcheng gritted his teeth, tangled for a long time, he once again turned and approached the shop next door to the inn. He continued to start asking the whereabouts of the one in the portrait.

Still no news, the shopkeepers all said that they had never seen Chu Ran.

When he heard the news, Gu Xian was still as calm as ever. He took up his horse's rein, and ordered: "Continue down, and send someone back to the dense forest to look for her again. The fog was thick at the time, and there may be omissions."

...

The wind was blowing her skirt, her face and neck were covered with little wounds and she was standing alone in the middle of the official road, but a bright smile slowly surfaced on her gloomy face.

Her eyes curved in a smile but tears fell like beads.

"Gu Xian!"

The clear call seemed to push Gu Xian into a dream, in which she was still there.

It was unexpected and unbelievable that she appeared in front of him like that abruptly, and when he turned around, she stood there smiling, her snow-white face was particularly striking in the dark rainy day. Her eyes were bright with laughter and tears.

The wind gradually became stronger again, and he jumped down from his horse under the cold rain, almost unsteadily on his feet.

Before Gu Xian could stand up properly, she ran over and rushed into his arms as lightly as a little bird whose wings had never been touched by the rain.

What else can Gu Xian do besides holding the lost baby tightly in his arms?

At that moment, time has stopped. The sky was still gloomy, and there was nothing else on the silent official road except the sound of rain.

"Gu Xian, I have some pain." She murmured in a small voice, her brows already frowning deeply.

Gu Xian suddenly sobered, he was so scared that he quickly let go of his hand, knelt on one knee, and looked at Chu Ran carefully. There was a wound on her face that was not too deep or shallow, and the blood has been condensed, and the same was on her neck.

His heart throbbed, the pain was about to suffocate him. Gu Xian gently touched her wound, she frowned in fear of the pain, but did not avoid it. Her eyes were wet, as if she had been greatly wronged.

Gu Xian asked, "How did you become like this?"

Chu Ran pursed her lips and said, "It was from a tree branch on the road."

Gu Xian clasped her shoulders with his hands. He didn't know whether he should be angry or laugh. Staring at her face, his voice lowered for several points: "Where else do you hurt?"

"It's nothing serious, it's all minor injuries, just..."

"Yes?"

There was a trace of embarrassment on her face: " On the back, I can't see it, it hurts a bit now."

Gu Xian was startled, and said, "Let me see." He turned her over, and was about to check her injury.

Chu Ran jumped out a good distance at once, hurriedly waved her hand and said, "No...no need..."

Gu Xian was also overwhelmed with anxiety and hurriedly asked: "What's the matter? Didn't you say it hurts?"

Sun Shangcheng on the side finally couldn't stand it anymore. A twitch appeared on his always expressionless face and said quietly: "Master, the Miss just came back, she will catch cold if she stays in the rain, so it's better to find a place to change the Miss into dry clothes and ask the doctor to come and take a look at the injury."

Gu Xian froze and looked at Chu Ran, who was hiding far away, and coughed gently with his head to the side. He was too worried and forgot that they were outside.

Gu Xian stretched out his hand to Chu Ran, his voice was slow and heavy, as if he was about to be dissolved in the mist and rain.

"Ran Ran, let's go home."
